SRAM's T-Type chain differs not only from more conventional chains such as Shimano 11 speed or KMC 11/12 speed by its distinctive flat side. The differences are also found on the inside of the chain. The main variations are the smaller distances between the inner and outer link plates.

Our T-Type-specific tooth profiles are symmetrical and include new, patent-pending mud evacuation features. Each wide tooth has a horizontal channel, about halfway up, to better remove contaminants, which is especially important on new narrower chains. 

From our experience and customer feedback, we know that the area where the back of the crank arm is closest to the chainring is particularly susceptible to mud and contamination. We have modified one of the wide teeth in this area to improve mud and pollution removal.
